Understanding

What is Supabase?

Supabase assembles several technical building blocks around a PostgreSQL database: user authentication, automatic generation of an API to read and write the data, file storage and server functions for logic that goes beyond a simple query. Rather than assembling these blocks separately project after project, they arrive pre-configured and communicate natively with one another. For your project, that means a back end that is operational earlier in development, then linked to the interface you use day to day.

What is Supabase used for?

Supabase acts as the back end for web platforms that need a relational database, user accounts and access to the same data from several interfaces at once: public site, client area, internal tool. It suits particularly well when the data links together in complex ways, which a more rudimentary database handles poorly. It loses its appeal for a showcase site with no user account and no data of its own to store, where no back end is needed.

Use cases

What we develop with Supabase

Platforms where Supabase manages the accounts, the data and the access rights, behind an interface we build to measure.

Multi-account SaaS platform

We develop SaaS platforms where each client has a partitioned area: Supabase's access rules filter the data at row level, so that one account never sees another's information in the same database.

Booking marketplace

We build booking marketplaces where the availability displayed updates live for every connected visitor, thanks to Supabase's real-time subscriptions on the tables concerned.

Multi-store back office

We develop back offices for retail networks, with a Supabase schema centralising catalogue, stock and orders, viewable from each point of sale through the API generated automatically by the platform.

Matching platform

We design matching platforms, between professionals in a sector or between individuals, where Supabase manages the profiles, the messages exchanged and the search criteria cross-referenced between several linked tables.

Patient or member tracking area

We develop tracking areas for healthcare organisations or cooperatives, where Supabase's authentication and access rules strictly separate what each user can view or edit.

Internal dashboard

We build internal dashboards that aggregate several data sources into a single Supabase schema, to give a team a consolidated view without multiplying tools and re-entry.

Ecosystem

The technologies that pair well with Supabase

Supabase provides the back end, never the screen shown to the visitor: we build the interface separately, most often in Next.js or React, connected to the API generated by the platform. Since the official client is written for TypeScript, the queries and the data stay typed from end to end. For logic that goes beyond what Supabase exposes natively, we develop an additional layer in Node.js rather than piling everything into the built-in server functions.

Our expertise

Supabase agency for the back end of your web platforms

We design the data schema, set the access rules and connect Supabase to the web interface developed for your project: account authentication, automatically generated API, server functions for the logic specific to your business, through to a monitored launch.

Supabase or a back end developed entirely to measure?

Supabase natively covers authentication, the API and storage, which avoids redeveloping those blocks on every project. We add a custom layer, in Node.js, only for the logic that goes beyond what the platform exposes by default.

Budget and lead times

Supabase is part of the overall budget of your platform, priced on quotation after scoping the schema and the access rules. A platform with a limited scope is put in place in 21 to 60 days, against 60 days for a multi-account system with more extensive relationships.

Our method

From idea to launch

Six steps, from the first conversation to launch — and the support that follows. The process is the same for an e-commerce site or a mobile app; only the deliverables change.

01
Scoping and specifications

Scoping and specifications for your project

We start from your objectives, not from a list of features. Scope, key user journeys, technical constraints and budget: everything is set down in writing before the first line of code. You know what you will get, when, and at what price.

02
UX / UI designs

UX / UI designs approved before development

You see your site or your app before it exists. We design every screen, test the user journeys and refine until navigation feels obvious. An interface approved at the design stage means development work that never goes to waste.

03
Custom development

Development with the right technology

WordPress or WooCommerce for a site you manage yourself, Next.js for a platform, Flutter or Swift for a mobile app: the technology follows your need, never the other way round. We ship regular test builds so you can follow progress in real conditions.

04
Testing and acceptance

Real-world testing and acceptance

Every build is tested on the browsers and devices your customers actually use: screen sizes, OS versions, unstable connections. We fix issues before your users run into them, not after they report them.

05
Go-live

Go-live and launch

We handle the launch end to end: hosting, domain name, redirects in the case of a redesign, analytics tools — and store publication when the project is an app. Nothing is left on your plate on launch day.

06
Maintenance and new features

Maintenance, updates and new features

A website, like an app, keeps evolving: security updates, version upgrades, new features as your feedback comes in. An optional annual plan covers monitoring and support work, and the code belongs to you in every case.

Frequently asked questions

Supabase agency FAQ

The questions company directors ask us most often before launching a platform with Supabase as the back end.

01How much does a project with Supabase cost?

Supabase is never billed on its own: it is the back end of a broader web platform project, whose price depends above all on the data schema to design, the number of connected screens and the complexity of the access rules between profiles. A platform with two or three linked tables costs markedly less than a multi-account system with dozens of entities linked together. Every project is priced on quotation after scoping that lists your needs, with a detailed quote sent within 24 hours.

02How long does it take to launch a platform with Supabase?

A platform with a limited data schema takes 21 to 60 days between scoping and going live, the time to design the schema, set the access rules and build the connected interface. A project with many user profiles and complex relationships between the tables calls for closer to 60 days. The precise schedule always depends on the schema agreed after scoping, never on a duration announced before seeing your real needs, and it leaves a margin to check the access rules before final production release.

03Supabase or Firebase, how do you choose?

We practise both, with a simple criterion: Supabase suits you when your data is relational and links together through precise rules, which a classic SQL database expresses naturally. Firebase remains our choice for what it does best, notifications and authentication for a mobile application, rather than as the main database of a web platform. We settle this choice from the scoping stage, according to the nature of your data, the number of interfaces to connect and where the essence of your project actually lives.

04Can you take over an existing Supabase project?

Yes, we start with an audit of the schema: tables, relationships, access rules set row by row, server functions already written and any flaws left open by default. This diagnosis separates what remains solid from what has to be corrected before adding new functions to your platform. A complete rework of the schema remains rare, reserved for projects started without real thought about the access rules between the different user profiles that will connect to the same database.

05Who manages Supabase once it is live?

An optional annual maintenance package can cover Supabase once it is live: monitoring of usage quotas, regular backups of the database, updating the server functions and correcting the access rules if your user profiles change. This package is priced according to the actual scope of your platform, never at a fixed rate announced without having seen the project, and it remains optional at each renewal, adjustable if your data schema grows over time.

06Do the data and the Supabase project belong to us?

Yes. The Supabase account is opened in your name from the start of the project, the underlying PostgreSQL database can be exported at any time with a standard command, and the code of the connected interface belongs to you in full at delivery. Since Supabase rests on open building blocks, nothing ties you lastingly to a single host: a migration to another PostgreSQL infrastructure always remains possible if your organisation decides otherwise, without rewriting the existing data schema.

07Does Supabase have an effect on my search visibility?

A back end is never read directly by search engines, but it conditions the speed of the pages that query it: well-indexed queries in the Supabase schema reduce the response time of a Next.js site, a criterion Google watches in its ranking. It also makes it possible to display content that is always up to date without manual re-entry. Search visibility remains carried by the public interface; Supabase is one of its technical conditions, never the direct lever that wins places.
