Understanding

What is TypeScript?

TypeScript is an extension of the JavaScript language that adds a type system: every piece of data handled by the code has to match a shape defined in advance. If a function expects information it does not receive in the right format, the error appears before going live, during development, rather than in production in front of your users. The code is then turned into classic JavaScript to run. For your project, that means fewer silent regressions as changes are requested.

What is TypeScript used for?

TypeScript is used to make a project more reliable when its code grows over time or changes hands between several developers: a business platform, an application with many exchanges between the site and its back end, an internal tool expected to evolve over several years. On a small isolated script, with no follow-up planned, the typing effort adds a constraint with no real benefit. We use it by default on any React, Next.js or Node.js project of a certain size, where the clarity of the code counts as much as how fast it is written in the first place.

Use cases

What we develop in TypeScript

TypeScript projects we deliver for businesses with very different business rules and data volumes.

Internal business platform

In TypeScript we develop the internal tool of a consultancy that centralises assignments, deadlines and invoicing: the types defined on each file prevent badly formed data from moving from one screen to another unnoticed.

Connected retail application

In TypeScript we develop the mobile application of a fashion retailer linked to its website and its till: the same data types describe a product on all three sides, which avoids display discrepancies between stock, site and physical store.

Production monitoring

In TypeScript we develop the dashboard of an industrial SME tracking its production live: the types imposed on each reported measurement prevent a badly formatted value from silently distorting a chart consulted every day.

Real-time booking

In TypeScript we develop the booking system of a hotel group that updates its availability across several channels: strict typing of room statuses prevents the same room from being displayed as available in two places.

Secure health portal

In TypeScript we develop the patient portal of a paramedical practice exchanging documents between several user profiles: the types associated with each role limit errors of access to information that must not circulate everywhere.

Online school area

In TypeScript we develop the digital area of a school managing enrolments, timetables and communications to families: the types defined on each form prevent an incomplete enrolment from going through undetected.

Ecosystem

The technologies that pair well with TypeScript

TypeScript pairs naturally with React and Next.js on the web interface side, where the same data types travel between components without getting lost along the way. On the back-end side, we find it again in our Node.js projects, with types shared between the front end and the API to remove format discrepancies between the two. For your mobile applications, React Native uses this same typed language, which simplifies coordination when a project touches both web and mobile.

Our expertise

TypeScript agency for your React and Next.js applications

In TypeScript we develop your React, Next.js and Node.js platforms: types defined from the data scoping stage, errors caught before going live, then follow-up after production release to keep code other teams can take over.

Type everything or only the sensitive areas?

We type as a priority the data that travels between several screens or towards a back end, where a silent error costs the most, rather than imposing exhaustive typing that would needlessly slow development of the simple areas.

Budget and lead times

Every TypeScript project is priced on quotation, according to the number of screens and the complexity of the data to manage. Allow 21 to 30 days for a simple interface, and up to 21 to 60 days for a platform with several user profiles. The exact amount is confirmed after that first scoping, never before.

Our method

From idea to launch

Six steps, from the first conversation to launch — and the support that follows. The process is the same for an e-commerce site or a mobile app; only the deliverables change.

01
Scoping and specifications

Scoping and specifications for your project

We start from your objectives, not from a list of features. Scope, key user journeys, technical constraints and budget: everything is set down in writing before the first line of code. You know what you will get, when, and at what price.

02
UX / UI designs

UX / UI designs approved before development

You see your site or your app before it exists. We design every screen, test the user journeys and refine until navigation feels obvious. An interface approved at the design stage means development work that never goes to waste.

03
Custom development

Development with the right technology

WordPress or WooCommerce for a site you manage yourself, Next.js for a platform, Flutter or Swift for a mobile app: the technology follows your need, never the other way round. We ship regular test builds so you can follow progress in real conditions.

04
Testing and acceptance

Real-world testing and acceptance

Every build is tested on the browsers and devices your customers actually use: screen sizes, OS versions, unstable connections. We fix issues before your users run into them, not after they report them.

05
Go-live

Go-live and launch

We handle the launch end to end: hosting, domain name, redirects in the case of a redesign, analytics tools — and store publication when the project is an app. Nothing is left on your plate on launch day.

06
Maintenance and new features

Maintenance, updates and new features

A website, like an app, keeps evolving: security updates, version upgrades, new features as your feedback comes in. An optional annual plan covers monitoring and support work, and the code belongs to you in every case.

Frequently asked questions

TypeScript agency FAQ

The questions company directors ask us most often before launching a development in TypeScript.

01How much does a TypeScript development with Skyward cost?

The budget depends on the complexity of the data handled and the number of screens to cover, not on the language used to write them: TypeScript adds no licence cost, only a slightly deeper scoping of the data structure at the outset. We list with you the types of content to manage and the exchanges expected with your existing tools before pricing anything at all. Every project is then priced on quotation, sent within 24 hours of that first scoping. This scoping avoids nasty surprises once development has started.

02How long does it take to deliver a TypeScript project?

A simple interface, with a limited number of screens and data types, is developed in 21 to 30 days once scoping is complete. A broader platform, with several user profiles and continuous exchanges with a back end, calls for closer to 21 to 60 days, and up to 60 days for a scope extended to several interdependent modules. The time spent defining the types up front then reduces the correction round trips at the end of the project. Last-minute touch-ups remain rare thanks to this work done up front.

03Why not stay with classic JavaScript?

Classic JavaScript suits an isolated script or a prototype with no follow-up planned, where the typing effort adds a constraint with no immediate benefit. As soon as a project has to live for several years, change hands between developers or handle somewhat complex data, TypeScript markedly reduces the number of errors discovered in production. We choose one or the other according to the expected lifespan of the project, never out of team habit. A prototype started in JavaScript can in fact migrate to TypeScript if the project grows.

04Can you take over an existing JavaScript project?

Yes, we regularly convert a JavaScript project to TypeScript, often file by file rather than in a single risky switchover. The initial audit identifies the most fragile areas of the code, where the absence of typing has already caused errors in production, so as to deal with them first. This progressive conversion makes it possible to keep delivering new functions while the typing advances in parallel, without freezing the project for the duration of the complete migration. This conversion remains free to assess before any commitment on your side.

05Do you offer maintenance once it is live?

Yes, in the form of an optional annual package, whose content depends on the actual scope of your platform: dependency updates, reported fixes and small developments requested as use goes on. A well-typed TypeScript project makes this follow-up easier, because a change to the code triggers an immediate alert if it breaks another part of the system. This package is never imposed: the code belongs to you from delivery onwards, whatever you choose afterwards. You remain free to give it up each year with no justification to provide.

06Does the TypeScript code developed belong to us?

Yes, without reservation. Code repository, documentation of the types used and hosting access are handed to you from delivery onwards, with no clause tying you to our agency in the long run. For a business platform expected to evolve over several years, this independence matters particularly, since it lets you entrust the rest of the project to another technical team if you wish, without depending on a single developer who alone would know its logic. You can check this point yourself as soon as the project is handed over.

07Does TypeScript have an effect on my search visibility?

TypeScript is never read directly by search engines: it is turned into JavaScript before reaching the browser. Its effect is indirect but real, in reducing the errors that cause display blockages or slowdowns on a Next.js site, signals Google takes into account in its ranking. Better-typed code also breaks less often during updates, which limits periods of instability visible to your visitors. An unstable site also loses visibility, well before any content problem.
